We were delighted to welcome Ruth May from NHS England who visited Ashworth Hospital on Monday. The Chief Nurse met CEO Joe Rafferty and Nursing Director Trish Bennett to present awards to staff from secure and community services.

The Chief Nurse also paid tribute to our own Director of Nursing, Trish Bennett, who (whisper it quietly) reached her own milestone of 40 years in nursing this week too.

The presentation of Silver Awards from the most senior nurse in England is a real cause for pride and the event, held inside the secure hospital, was well received by attendees and guests who worked through all COVID rules and guidance to hold the ceremony in safety.

Congratulations to...

  • Blake Ward – Recognition for their amazing work nursing during the pandemic and the challenges of supporting patients with COVID in high secure settings from Ruth.

  • HMP Liverpool – Great credit from Ruth for the team who turned around a challenging service and receiving a very positive CC and prison service inspection result. “Special people” indeed!

  • 43 years’ service and visionary work for children and young people – a brilliantly deserved award for head of service Trish Mattinson from Ruth today, described as "an outstanding leader".

Well done to everyone involved
