Data up to the end of March 2023 highlighted the positive and significant impact of Mersey Care’s Winter Plan. Overall, across the different schemes implemented, the number of potential bed days saved was over 44,000, 11% more than originally planned.

Particular areas that have resulted in this increase include extremely high occupancy levels of mental health beds, as well as physical health beds in Longmoor House and increasing numbers of referrals into specialist nursing services such as IV Therapy and Community Respiratory Teams. In addition, there has been the ongoing roll out of Virtual Wards and the nMABS Service who provide Covid-19 anti-viral treatment.

To put into context, the overall number of bed days saved is equivalent to 244 beds provided for within the community – 23 more than the original plan.
