We’re writing to ask for your help. Seven years ago, our staff shared their honest experience of working at Mersey Care, what affected them doing their best work, and how the environment and culture that we created impacted both their health, and that of our patients. This was a turning point for us as an organisation and fuelled an ambition to develop a just culture.

This was the beginning of what has become an unprecedented cultural journey and learning process. We have done much work and made great progress; however, we recognise that during this period, the Trust has experienced significant growth and change, the impact of a pandemic, increasing demands of our communities and ongoing sector and policy influences.

Undoubtedly these changes will have an influence on ‘how we do things around here’ and we want, indeed, we need, to hear again how it is for you. It was your honesty and feedback seven years ago that changed Mersey Care for the better, for you and our patients. It is your honesty and feedback that will ensure that we continue to do so.

We feel now is the right time to pause, reflect, and hear again from as many of you as possible. We will therefore be designating the week 24 to 28 April Restorative Just and Learning Culture Week 2023.

During this week we’re inviting you to tell us how the culture really feels in your teams and our organisation. A series of events have been scheduled (see below for details) to reflect on the work we’ve done to date, celebrate progress, and seek to learn and address issues that still affect people’s experience of Mersey Care as an employer and care provider.

The week’s events will conclude with an open face to face discussion (please email organisationaleffectiveness@merseycare.nhs.uk to book) and a short survey is open until the end of the month.

Your feedback is crucial to the development of the priorities for the next stage of our Restorative Just and Learning Culture at Mersey Care, and we will be feeding back the key themes and what action we will be taking in June.

It’s our ambition that all of our 12,000 colleagues, our patients and service users, truly understand and feel part of our Restorative, Just and Learning Culture and we hope that you will take the time to shape the next stage of this journey.
