The NHS national director for Estates and Facilities, Simon Corben, returned to Mersey Care on Tuesday to see developments at our new build at Mossley Hill.

Mr Corben was last at the Park Avenue site in January and this week he was able to see some of the room layouts inside as the construction continues apace ahead of its opening to patients next year. Our Chief Finance Officer Rob Collins and our Associate Director Michele McGee donned hard hats and high viz to look around 80 bed mental health facility with Mr Corben. The group included external colleagues including our construction partners. They also inspected the mock up bedrooms being built as part of the testing processes. Mr Corben was impressed with work so far

Following the visit to Mossley Hill Mr Corben, plus Rob and Michele, went to the Maghull Health Park.

They first toured Aspen Wood, our newly opened low secure learning disability service, guided by the service and ward leads and Steve Newton, Divisional Director. Simon was able to meet service users and see some of the therapeutic activity in the LSU.

Next the group went over the road for a guided tour around Rowan View, which was led by Steve and service leads from the MSU. Simon spoke to the team at the Curve Café. Finally, they also took in the exteriors of Ashworth Hospital to discuss the high secure element of the Trust estate.

Rob Collins thanked all involved in the day. He told us: “The visit gave us an valuable opportunity to showcase the excellent work that has been achieved between both clinical and estates teams on some really impressive capital developments.” A further visit from NHSE’s leads is already in the planning stage!
