The Mental Health Bill recently received Royal Assent, marking the most significant reform since the last substantive changes were made in 2008. The key changes aim to modernise outdated mental health laws and improve care for patients. The changes will start to take effect on 18 February 2026 this will be a phased approach to implementation.

The Mental Health Law Team is actively working with Hill Dickinson Solicitors to ensure clarity and preparedness in response to these legislative changes, ensuring all staff are equipped to fully understand and implement the changes. Going forward there will be weekly communications on the implementation plan which includes key messages, training opportunities and frequently asked questions.
