Applications are now open for October 2026 entry in the King’s PhD Programme in Mental Health Research for Health Professionals, those wishing to seek a clinical and academic career in mental health research are encouraged to apply.
Three programmes of research will be available, representing emerging opportunities in mental health science:

Applications are open to a wide range of registered health professions, including but not limited to doctors, nurses, midwives, psychologists, pharmacists and professions allied to healthcare. They aim to diversify the mental health research workforce and actively welcome applicants from three under-represented groups: people with lived experience of mental health conditions, diverse racial and ethnic groups, and nurses, midwives and allied health professionals (NMAHPs).
The fellowship offers full home (UK) fees, and a salary matched to the applicant’s clinical salary for three years (full-time study, pro rata for part-time study) as well as funding for research costs, training and travel. There may be a limited number of international fee waivers available for international applicants.
