Our colleagues in the GMB have formally confirmed that strike action will take place on 18 January 2023 (00.01 to 23.59 hours).
We have updated the list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) available on YourSpace here. These will be updated as and when we receive more information.
Mersey Care recognises the legal mandate of GMB members to withdraw their labour and take strike action. Derogations allow specific roles and services to be exempt from industrial action, which can support colleagues in achieving both striking and maintaining patient safety. (A derogation is when an individual or service is granted an exemption from taking part in strike action).
We are working in partnership with local and regional GMB representatives to understand our safer staffing requirements and the derogations required to make sure our services remain safe and effective for people who need them during this period of industrial action. GMB has informed their members that they are working with the Trust to try to provide some derogations/emergency cover for services. If any staff wish to provide cover during this strike period, please make urgent contact with GMB Branch Secretary: Christopher.Chamley@merseycare.nhs.uk. Your local GMB stewards will also be able to assist with any queries in respect of the industrial action.
Those on the picket line will understand that some colleagues need to work as normal, and in doing so are supporting an effective strike. There are no issues with any colleague crossing a picket line if they are going into their workplace to provide essential patient care. Picket lines will be in place at Whalley and Clock View Hospital sites. We recognise the decision to take part in industrial action is a heartfelt personal one for you and we would encourage all staff to remember our core values, and to always show respect and civility during these potentially difficult times.
Once again, thank you for your support, cooperation, professionalism and commitment to patient care.
