Medical gases are regulated medical products used for various purposes in patient care. At Mersey Care, we currently hold oxygen, Entonox or nitrous oxide, which are supplied either by authorised providers or through service level agreements (SLAs) with neighbouring trusts.

These gases are provided in the form of small cylinders, large cylinders or piped systems. The proper storage and handling of medical gases and cylinders are essential to mitigate associated risks. To make sure we maintain safe storage protocols, a comprehensive scoping exercise will be conducted to identify all areas within the Trust which maintain supplies of medical gases.

It is imperative that all personnel involved in the handling or administration of these gases receive appropriate training. If your service uses medical gases and you do NOT complete the quarterly safe and secure audit on Amat, please contact michelle.hodgkinson@merseycare.nhs.uk.
