Mersey Care’s Supportive Observation Policy has been reviewed, ratified and is now in place across the Trust. It’s essential that supportive observations are carried out in line with our policy to make sure our patients and service users are safe.

The policy states “Where there is CCTV installed, compliance with delivery of the prescribed observation level will be subject to a spot check using CCTV footage”. The viewing of CCTV footage as an audit tool is a change in how the Trust ensures patient safety. It’s important that the Supportive Observation Policy is adhered to at all times. This includes making sure there are key observation points such as night stations on wards, or that nursing stations are staffed so patient needs are supported.

The Divisional Head of Nursing will access ward CCTV footage under agreed governance, to complete randomly selected spot checks to ensure there is compliance with prescribed observation levels. Supportive observation audits in clinical areas that have CCTV coverage will start from 16 January 2023.

The updated policy is available on YourSpace. Please take time to read the policy and understand your role and responsibilities.
