There is an amber alert for extremely strong winds between 5am to 9pm, today Friday 18 February. This has the potential to cause disruption to travel, damage to buildings, potential impacts to utilities and falling branches/uprooted trees. Cheshire

  • As per Mersey very high winds are expected late morning to mid-afternoon.
  • The two Halton Bridges may close if wind speed hits threshold for closure or there are risks from debris
  • Thelwall Viaduct (M6) may close (if wind speed hits threshold)
  • General comms re don’t travel unless essential
  • EA Worse case :  overtopping of several rivers in Cheshire, possibility of flooded property (several flood alerts and warnings have been issued for Mersey Estuary, Dee Estuary and Irish Sea)
  • Possibility of electrical failures if damage to cables / pylons etc

Liverpool

  • Very high winds from late morning to mid-afternoon today Friday (then calmer)
  • Trees , cranes etc at risk
  • High Tide at 12miday  - could be some overtopping on coast
  • Mersey Ferries services currently suspended
  • Buses as normal
  • Each train company will publish cancellations
