A new awareness campaign by the NHS Counter Fraud Authority (NHSCFA) is highlighting the importance of making accurate claims and protecting valuable NHS resources.
The ‘Careless Claims’ campaign focuses on helping staff understand how even small inaccurate or dishonest claims can impact the NHS and raise awareness of some of the most common types of fraud affecting NHS organisations.
Why this campaign matters
Of course, the vast majority of NHS staff act with integrity and are committed to protecting public funds. However, a small number of dishonest or inaccurate claims can result in significant financial losses across the health service. Every pound lost to fraud is money that could otherwise support patient care.
This campaign will highlight how honest and accurate claims help protect NHS resources and maintain trust in the health service.
What the campaign will focus on
Over the month of May, NHSCFA will be sharing information and guidance covering areas such as:
- Mileage and travel claims - ensuring journeys claimed are accurate and legitimate
- Timekeeping and hours worked - claiming for hours not worked
- Free prescriptions - claiming exemptions when not entitled
