Mersey Care has been recognised for its contribution to national QI programmes with a certificate of commendation. The Trust has participated in 20 of the 24 clinical audits run over the last 20 years by the Prescribing Observatory for Mental Health (POMH). We’ve been a continuous POMH member since 2007 and our own clinical audit leads want to thank staff, past and present, for their contributions.

The National Prescribing Observatory for Mental Health helps specialist mental health trusts improve their prescribing practice by developing and leading National Clinical Audits. Taking part in these national clinical audits has enabled us to contribute to the wider national picture of care standards across the country and also allows us to benchmark our own performance against that of other organisations.

Centre for Perfect Care Deputy Director Steve Bradbury tells us: “Mersey Care actively uses audit findings to support ongoing improvements in the quality and safety of the care we deliver. To achieve this there is a team of people who play a part in making the audits a success right through to implementing robust action plan. I’d want to thank them all for their work.”

The teams include:

  • the Clinical Audit Team who facilitate the audit
  • the Pharmacy Team who support all elements of the audit
  • medical consultants who lead the audit
  • our Resident Doctors/Medics who collect the data
  • nursing colleagues who offer vital advice and support throughout the process

The Trust takes a unique approach to data collection by conducting it collaboratively through Clinical Audit Days. This give both consistency and timeliness and also promotes staff engagement, enhances data reliability and supports continuous quality improvement.

Lisa Patterson and Kerry Dainton would also like to extend a sincere thanks to everyone who contribute to the success of these audits. They have played a vital role in helping us improve the care that we deliver to all our patients.
