Things you should know about legionella
2 February 2026
Legionella is a type of bacteria found naturally in water. It can sometimes appear in places like sinks or showers, especially if they aren’t used often and water sits still. If people breathe in tiny droplets of water containing Legionella, it can cause lung infections (like pneumonia), especially in those at higher risk. To keep our staff, service users and patients safe, the Trust regularly maintains, and flushes unused water outlets also test water samples for Legionella. If Legionella is found, the Trust follows strict safety policies and procedures to prevent any risks.
