Waffa was nominated by Jeff Robinson and we met at Baird House to present her with a certificate and £50 vouchers. It was lovely to also be introduced to Waffa’s Mum who came along to support
Amongst various volunteer opportunities Waffa is involved with she became a Check In and Chat volunteer in September 2021. After identifying that her Service User/Companion was very isolated Waffa offered to call him twice a week on a Tuesday and Friday. These calls developed and each can be up to an hour long. Waffa took time to call her companion to get to know her Service User and his interests to engage him. Waffa takes a professional and compassionate approach and gave of her time on Christmas day and New Year’s eve to offer season’s greetings and to check in with her companion. These calls in particular supported the Gentleman through a very difficult time of year.
Additional roles Waffa has undertaken as a volunteer are Service User Representative and Expert by Experience in Digital Improvements, recruitment panels and Community Excellence group.
