Free e-learning modules for health and care professionals, developed in collaboration with 8 royal colleges. The modules can help you prepare for a career in research if you have little-to-no experience. 

  • Health Education England research internships - Research internships offer an introduction to all aspects and roles across clinical academic research from trial design, data management through to undertaking practical research in a clinical environment. Schemes provide a range of both taught and academically supervised interventions that both engage and exposes the intern to the clinical academic research environment but also provide them with the practical skills to undertake a research project supported by an expert clinical academic supervisor. 

  • NHS Research and Development North West - NHS R&D NW focuses on the development of early career practitioners in the health and care arena. This is done through several targeted programmes and activities funded through NHSE and NIHR. The approach focuses on the needs of the individual researcher and the programmes provide mentorship, skills development and create active communities of practice.  

  • NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) NWC Internships - ARC NWC internships provide an opportunity for individuals employed by its member organisations (including Mersey Care), who are interested in learning more about research or taking the next steps in their research career. An internship involves release from the workplace for up to a day a week for up to a year to carry out a research project.  

  • Future Learn - Online courses from 200+ world-class universities and brands 

  • Cochrane evidence essentials - An introduction to evidence-based medicine, clinical trials and Cochrane evidence. It is designed for patients and the public, policy makers and members of healthcare teams.
