A message from Trish Bennett, Chief Executive Officer
I am pleased to inform you of an important change to the Mersey Care Board of Directors.
I can confirm David Fillingham CBE has been appointed as our new interim Chair.
The Trust's Council of Governors approved the interim appointment as its meeting on 9 December 2025 and David formally took up the post on 11 December for a period of six months.
David will fulfil the role for the next six months while also continuing as Chair of Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Trust. David held several chief executive posts including Wirral FHSA, St Helens and Knowsley Health Authority, North Staffordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, and Royal Bolton Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
He brings a wealth of NHS experience to the role, having joined the NHS in 1989 following a successful career in manufacturing.
The Council of Governors have asked that the process to recruit a permanent Chair now starts.
