The deadline for entering the prestigious RCN Nursing Awards has been extended until Wednesday 20 April to give nurses more time to share innovative practice and celebrate excellence in the profession.

The awards offer nurses, nursing students and healthcare assistants a chance to share their innovations and expertise, and celebrate their contribution to improving patient care and outcomes.

Entries are open to individuals and teams in 14 categories – as well as the RCN Nurse of the Year 2022 – that capture the diversity of nursing.

The Patient’s Choice category, which gives patients the opportunity to nominate a nurse, health visitor or nursing support worker who has made a difference to their lives, is decided by public vote.

The RCN Nurse of the Year 2022 will be chosen from the category winners and announced at the awards ceremony at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in London on 6 October.

Consultants and managers can nominate a fantastic nurse or team to recognise their contribution and show appreciation of their efforts.

Foundation of Nursing Studies chief executive Joanne Bosanquet, who will chair the judging panel, said nurses were incredibly busy at the moment, which is why the deadline for entries had been extended to allow them more time to enter.

‘Finalists and winners are featured in local, regional and national media, and RCNi’s nursing journals, so entering these awards can also shine a spotlight on the particular challenges a specialty might face, or highlight an overlooked group of people and their needs,’ she said.

‘You now have more time, so please share your examples of nursing excellence with us so we can share it UK-wide.’
