Winter plan makes an impact

Our winter/resilience plan is keeping patients well in the community and taking pressure off the wider health and care system. Despite the Christmas and New Year period being challenging, there was very little disruption to patients and overall, it was an incredibly positive outcome under such difficult conditions.

The winter season invariably brings a significant increase in demand for NHS services which is compounded by the awful adverse weather conditions. Together with the heightened local system pressures, this period has indeed been particularly challenging.

Quick action helps vulnerable patient

On 13 December, Antonia Bennett, care practitioner based in Norris Green District Nursing Team, detected a gas leak during a patient visit. Despite the patient’s reluctance to leave, Antonia ensured her safety and contacted the Emergency Gas Service. The leak, from a recent repair, could have led to an explosion. Thanks to Antonia’s quick action, the patient and surrounding area were safeguarded from a potential disaster.
