This procedure describes the limitations of the administration of medication by Health Care Support Workers (HCSWs) including Health Care Assistants (HCAs) and Assistant Practitioners (APs) in Community Physical Health Services. It will ensure administration of medicines is undertaken by appropriately qualified and competent HCAs and APs with documented authority and competencies, working under the delegation of a Registered Health Care Professionals.

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that all Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services across MerseyCare delivery care in a consistent and safe manner as per Trust Policies and procedure. This policy applies to all substantive, bank and agency staff employed by Merseycare NHS Foundation Trust (MCFT)

This document clarifies the responsibility of Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust Clinicians in respect of service users’ physical health care needs and establishes standards of physical health examination and assessment on admission to inpatient wards

This is aimed to support all services across the Trust who have employed an AHP in a developmental role. This does not apply to those on a substantive specific banded role.
