Mersey Care has signed up to the NHS Sexual Safety Charter and is committed to a zero-tolerance approach to any unwanted, inappropriate and/or harmful sexual behaviours.
Experiencing sexual misconduct can be very distressing and isolating and we understand that this can make it difficult to tell someone about it. Our aim is to help make staff feel as comfortable as they can be to report their experience.
These pages provide information about sexual harassment and misconduct in the workplace and signposts methods of reporting unwanted sexual behaviours as well as support and training available to all staff.

Sexual harassment occurs when a person engages in unwanted conduct of a sexual nature that has the purpose or effect of violating someone’s dignity or creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for them, whether it was intended or not.
Sexual harassment can take many forms including verbal, written, physical, non-verbal and visual, and could be experienced from anyone you meet because of your job.
Sexual misconduct is any unwanted behaviour of a sexual nature. It can happen anywhere, including at work events and online.
Sexual misconduct can include many things, such as:
- Sexual comments or jokes
- Unwanted touching or kissing
- Showing sexual pictures
- Staring at someone in a sexual way
- Asking personal questions about someone’s sex life
- Sexual assault or rape.
