From the 1 June 2023, we will be introducing the elearning module 000 The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism Part 1 for all staff.

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training aims to provide the health and care workforce with the right skills and knowledge to provide safe, compassionate, and informed care to autistic people and people with a learning disability.

This requirement is set out in the Health and Care Act 2022.

The training is named after Oliver McGowan. Oliver was a young man whose death shone a light on the need for health and social care staff to have an increase in skills, knowledge and understanding of the needs for autistic people and people with a learning disability. The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is the government’s preferred and recommended training for all health and social care staff. 

The training will be provided in two tiers which will be aimed at certain staff, and their roles.  The trust plans a co ordinated gradual roll out of the further training across the two tiers starting with the tier 1 with Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism Part 1 which is now available and the only learning colleagues are being directed to complete.

The course will only have to be completed once. Please note the renewal date is subject to change in the future.

When the e-learning package is opened, you will be signposted to complete additional training. This is not a requirement yet so please only complete 000 The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism Part 1.
