You may be aware that a National Patient Safety Alert was issued on 27 September 2023, to advise of national shortages of some ADHD medications. For some patients and service users there will be the option of switching to an alternative medication, but this may not be clinically appropriate for all, meaning some patients may be required to have a break from their ADHD medication.
At present, the supply disruptions are expected to resolve at various dates between October and December 2023. This may cause an increase in patients and service users diagnosed with ADHD contacting mental health services and we will do our best to support these services throughout this period. Please note that other ADHD products remain available.
To support our service users and patients we have set up an ADHD Advice Line 0151 247 6148 which will be managed by trained staff and operational between 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
The advice line number will be shared with those patients currently receiving the limited supply of the ADHD medication. As a healthcare professional, you can also utilise this resource for advice if you are concerned about an ADHD patient.
If you are contacted by an ADHD patient who is distressed or anxious about not being able to source their medication, please ask them to contact their local pharmacist to check stock availability, in addition to using the above advice line.
