Government Plans A and B

COVID-19 cases are rising and winter is drawing closer said Professor Chris Whitty, England’s Chief Medical Officer in a recent Tweet. He also said:

  • If you have not been vaccinated, now is the time
  • If you are offered a booster please take up the offer
  • Ventilation, masks in crowded indoor spaces and hand washing remain important.

Government’s Plan A can only be achieved by building our defences through: vaccines, antivirals and disease modifying therapeutics. As health and social care workers we have a responsibility to take up the vaccines, boost our defences and keep ourselves and others safe. We must lead by example and help to prevent implementation of Government Plan B and the return of restrictions that might include further lock downs.

Co-administered COVID-19 booster and flu vaccination appointments

All health and social care workers, including those with social contact with patients, and non-clinical staff over 50 are eligible for the vaccines. The majority of eligible staff are 26 weeks after second COVID-19 dose so use this link for booking your appointment. An additional clinic has been made available for co-administered vaccinations on Saturday, 6 November from 9am to 5pm. If you have the NHS App, you can check when you had your COVID-19 vaccinations, as well as getting your COVID-19 pass, accessing your health record, ordering repeat prescriptions etc.

Flu only appointments

Additional flu only vaccination appointments have been made available for those staff who may have had their COVID-19 booster elsewhere, or are not yet eligible for their booster (not reached 26 weeks after the second dose). These appointments are available for all Mersey Care staff with clinical contact, including social contact with patients or service users, as well as those staff who are over 50.

Please arrive at the vaccination centre at the time of your appointment, we’re extremely busy at the moment and this will help to keep us to schedule.

Vaccination centre

The vaccination centre is at Maghull Health Park, Parkbourn, Maghull, L31 1HW. (Site entrance is via Villas Road, is on a one way system, and for those familiar with the what3words navigation system, use: unloading.spoiled.retained). If you have difficulties getting to and from the vaccination centre, please discuss this with your manager or follow the link to Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Health care workers are able to book their COVID-19 booster vaccination at various sites across Cheshire and Merseyside. Those staff who take up this offer will have to make separate arrangements for flu vaccines.
