The way staff manage the death of a Service User and how they support relatives is set out in this policy and procedure. The effective management of a death and the support provided to their families is of primary importance and can help all those involved gain resolution and come to terms with their loss in a safe and natural way. This Policy has been developed to provide a systematic approach to maintaining compliance with all guidance on this area. The Francis Report outlined several standards that should be met when a person who has been receiving in-patient care dies which relate to the certification of death and the assessment of whether all could have been done to either prevent the death or improve on the care of that person during the terminal stages of their life.
