The purpose of this policy is to provide information and guidance to Mersey Care NHS Trust directors, managers and staff on their responsibilities concerning health and safety at work. This policy describes the ownership of inventions, innovations (intellectual property) when created by employees of the Trust as provide in legislation.

To provide information to prescribers, registered nurses and medicines management staff to ensure that zuclopenthixol acetate injection (Clopixol Acuphase®) is prescribed, administered and monitored safely and effectively, as per national guidance and licensed indications, to adult patients in inpatient settings under the care of the Trust.

This procedure provides guidance to Trust Staff who will carry out audits to monitor and assess the compliance with patient group direction (PGD) requirements for the supply or administration of medicines via PGD.

This procedure aims to ensure all community nursing staff are aware of the process for the use of electronic Patient Specific Directions (PSD), authorising the administration of medication via the EMIS GP prescribing system. This procedure will support the community nursing service to administer medication safely to patients in line with regulatory requirements.
