On 4 September 2023, NHS England launched its first ever Sexual Safety Charter in collaboration with key partners across the healthcare system. The Charter promotes the fundamental belief that those who work, train and learn within the healthcare system have the right to be safe and feel supported at work.
In the first policy of its kind in the NHS, a new national policy framework on sexual misconduct has been published to ensure that any member of staff who has experienced inappropriate and/or harmful sexual behaviours at work is supported.
Mersey Care, as signatories to this charter, commits to a zero tolerance approach to any unwanted, inappropriate and/or harmful sexual behaviours towards our workforce and in support of the new policy, we have set up an area on YourSpace to help you:
- Understand your rights and responsibilities
- Recognise and report sexual misconduct at work
- Get advice and support
An overview of the policy is also available.
Alongside the policy is a new eLearning resource, Understanding sexual misconduct in the workplace, designed to equip people working and learning in the NHS with the knowledge and skills to recognise and respond to sexual misconduct. This will be available on ESR from 1 December and will be mandatory for all Mersey Care staff.
