Caring for our carers

Despite their contribution, carers often face barriers when accessing health and care services. These barriers include not being identified as carers, and not having reasonable adjustments made to enable improved access to services; a lack of awareness about what carers do, their role as expert partners in care, and a failure to involve carers in care planning and decisions; and not being able to have their own health and wellbeing needs met due to caring responsibilities.

Our Carer Engagement and divisional Leads are here to help.

A carer can be someone who provides unpaid care or support for a partner, parent, child, sibling, family, friend or neighbour who has a disability or long term health condition.

Voices Heard, Actions Taken

Earlier this year, the Trust held a series of Your Voice Your Change mega conversations and focus groups to find out what’s working well across the Trust, and what suggestions and ideas colleague had, to improve your experience at work.

Since then, a number of actions have commenced across the Trust in response to this feedback. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Simplifying Systems – we’ve launched updated, self-populating SharePoint forms to try and reduce the administrative burden when recording workforce changes
  • Use of Space – we are reviewing the Trust’s room booking system and piloting a difference approach to how we allocate team space on some sites
  • Communication – we are refreshing the Trust’s YourSpace content to help make it easier for you to find the information and resources you need
  • Workforce – we are streamlining our onboarding processes to improve speed as well as find ways to automate some aspects
  • Staff Networks – we have aligned an Executive Sponsor to each of our Trust’s Staff Networks, with a firm commitment to supporting and influencing positive change at Board level

These and further improvements will continue into next year. You can keep up to date with progress from January by checking the YourVoiceYourChange YourSpace page.
