The Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) has recently launched a consultation on the proposed action the government and devolved administrations will take to protect future generations from the harms of smoking.
The consultation also asks about proposals to crack down on youth vaping and ensure the law is enforced. The proposed actions are outlined in more detail in Stopping the start: our new plan to create a smokefree generation.
The consultation asks questions in three areas for which new legislation would be needed, which are:
- Creating a smokefree generation
- Tackling youth vaping
- Enforcement.
DHSC want to hear from, amongst others, councils, the public, the retail sector and the independent vaping industry, clinicians and medical professionals, public health stakeholders and academic experts.
The consultation closes on 6 December.
