Last Friday, colleagues working across the region in Mersey Care and beyond came together at Maghull Health Park to celebrate the HOPE(S) model implementation with teams from the North West region.

Mersey Care’s creation of this model, reducing the use of long-term segregation in hospitals, has been highly successful, with NHS England initially funding its roll out across the country. It was designed by Dr Jennifer Kilcoyne and Danny Angus.

Chief Executive Trish Bennett attended to present awards to practitioners and partners, including to colleagues in our Aspen Wood service in Maghull and our Liverpool Intensive Support Function.

Trish said she was privileged to be part of the day. She reminded everyone that the powerful stories of how lives are changed as people are supported to live their best lives away from segregation are actually far more than just stories, they are real, meaningful examples of great care. The care is supported by the practice leadership for teams from the North West to use and embed Mersey Care’s model and through the community of practice set up by practitioners Siobhan Chadwick and Donna Kendray.

Also recognised was Cheshire and Merseyside ICB’s commissioner Jan Warburton, and also teams from Priory Hospital, Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust, Lancashire Care CWP and social care as well as independent advocacy.
