As we still come to terms with the recent tragic incident in Southport on 29 July 2024 and the subsequent violence and disorder, the Trust has been made aware of social media posts on personal accounts, which are reported to have been made by our staff, with some posts having then been liked and/ or shared by colleagues.

The content of these posts does not align with our Trust values. We are reviewing the content of the posts to see if there is any impact on Mersey Care patients, service users or colleagues and will act as appropriate.

All staff are reminded that our Social Media Policy (IT16) sets out our individual and professional responsibilities regarding the appropriate use of social media.

This policy clearly states that: 'our staff must not take any actions that could be construed as cyber-bullying, intimidation or exploitation or encourage violence, self-harm or incite hatred or discrimination.'

If you see or hear anything offensive, inappropriate or criminal, please contact your line manager or Freedom to Speak Up through the FTSU form.

Please take a moment to stop and think carefully about the impact of your words and actions upon others when using social media.
