We’ve been rolling out the Ward Guardian tool to teams across the Trust for over a year. From using the tool, we’ve been able to support managers and teams with their roster practices, improve roster performance and been able to easily identify and rectify issues. The Ward Guardian tool has provided the Trust with great insight into use of roster and enabled us to review how we use the tool to bring greater benefits to the Trust. Throughout the rollout we’ve taken on feedback and suggestions from teams as well as reviewing team performance. This led us to review the inclusion criteria with input from operational leads, workforce and Oceans Blue.

Criteria has been agreed as follows: If a team’s roster is planned with variable shifts, this team will be included in the Ward Guardian programme and will be monitored and supported through the Ward Guardian tool. As a result, some teams will no longer be monitored through the Ward Guardian tool. However, it’s expected that these teams plan and manage the roster in accordance with the attached roster policy. Teams who will no longer be on the programme have been contacted.

The roster team will still monitor performance through the roster and intervention reports provided from Oceans Blue as the intervention reports cover all teams. Additionally, the rostering team will continue to conduct review clinics with all teams, regardless of their participation in the Ward Guardian programme.

Thank you to all teams for their involvement and co-operation with the Ward Guardian tool. If you have any questions, please contact Chloe.webb@merseycare.nhs.uk
