On 19 August, the second Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals Research and Innovation Forum took place at Lakeside, Crosby, featuring Dr Hazel Roddam, lead author of the AHP Research Strategy for England. Hazel emphasised the need for a workforce that can turn research into action, advocating for innovation and risk taking in terms of career development.
Internal speakers included Dr Krystina Stanway, who discussed her PhD study which explored using social media to improve end of life care for young people and Emma Chappelle-Hedges, an Advanced Psychological Practitioner (Mental Health Nurse by background) who shared her NIHR internship experience, where she explored experiences of Type 1 diabetics patients and accessing mental health support, encouraging others to pursue research opportunities.
The event was attended by 40 participants who provided great feedback. One participant, Mellisa Sheffield (Reducing Restrictive Practice Senior Nurse), said," it was really thought provoking and has inspired me to think about how we can use research to shape and improve the way we support people within the RRP team”.
The main goal of this forum is to build a community of professionals who use evidence based practices by creating a supportive environment here at Mersey Care. The forum aims to continue foster a community of evidence based practitioners.
