NED Iain’s visit to BABS.jpegNon-Executive Director, Prof Iain Buchan visited the Building Attachment and Bonds Service (BABS) at Knowsley last week.

“I visited the Building Attachment and Bonds Service (BABS) at Knowsley today. The dedication of the staff and lasting impacts of their work humbled and inspired me. Nurturing families to nurture has positive impacts that may last generations and helps develop stronger communities. The team is not only supporting individual families but also changing the culture of working between the NHS and social care to prevent the adverse consequences of children being removed from their parents. In most cases, parenting support from BABS can give those children a better start in life than institutional care ever could. Lisa, Carmel, Kate, Clare, and the team brought their work alive with powerful stories that colleagues across the health and social care system need to hear.”

“I was joined by my colleague Dr Liz Camacho, Health Economist from the University of Liverpool who wants to help BABS to understand its impacts across the health and social care system. This is important as we develop better integrated health and care systems between the NHS and local authorities, where finances are stretched, and numbers of looked-after children are increasing. Liz will be working with the BABS team to help understand the bigger picture of health, social and economic impacts.”
