As we enter the winter months, we are already seeing a rise in respiratory type infections like Influenza and COVID-19. Couple this with an increase in large gatherings during the festive period and with less people taking up the offer of vaccination, and there is potential for high infection rates this winter.
Vaccination uptake across the Trust has been poor this season and it is now more critical than ever that staff members receive their vaccinations to protect themselves, their families and most importantly their patients and service users.
The vaccines take approximately two weeks to provide the required immune response and as such, should not be delayed unnecessarily.
Like the annual Influenza vaccine, the COVID-19 vaccines have been tweaked to deal with any prominent new strains and have changed for this autumn’s vaccination campaign, but as you can see in the below table, the uptake of COVID-19 has been less than the uptake of Influenza vaccines even though both are necessary.

Please note COVID-19 vaccinations will only be available until mid-December.
To give every member of staff the opportunity to receive their vaccines as conveniently as possible and help to prevent the spread of these viruses within the Trust, the vaccination team are still offering a number of clinics to facilitate this.
If you have a team of six or more staff requiring vaccination, then we can arrange a clinic at your base at a time and date to suit – please contact the vaccination centre to arrange on 0151 473 2812.
Appointments are still available at the vaccine centre daily and at other published sites across the Trust.
Please check Your Space for more details and online booking. When booking online, please remember to use Microsoft Edge and when entering your NHS number do not leave any spaces or you will not be recognised.
