Part A: Course Information: This course provides a comprehensive overview to vital signs observations (manual blood pressure, manual pulse, tympanic temperature, SPO2, respiration rate and ACVPU conscious level), use of the National Early Warning Score 2 (NEWS2) track and trigger tool and appropriate and timely escalation of a deteriorating patient using the SBARD communication tool. Practical element opportunity to enhance manual clinical skills of observations under supervision. Target Audience: It is provided for any staff member who must develop competence in the assessment and recognition of deteriorating physical health of the service user. Learning Outcomes: 1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of improving safety and quality of person-centred care. 2. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding in the assessment, interpretation and recognition of the deteriorating patient using vital sign observations and the National Early Warning Score 2. 3. Escalate timely and appropriately in clinical practice using the SBARD Communication Tool. 4. Have Sepsis awareness. 5. Utilise scenarios and practical simulation to enhance knowledge and understanding. MMD-POL-002 - Age Appropriate Admissions Policy
All children and young people are best accommodated within age appropriate services. This is in accordance with the Mental Health Act Code of Practice. This policy caters for the exceptional emergency circumstances when consideration is being given to admitting a child / young person 16-18 years of age to an adult ward. This policy must be read in conjunction with the Age Appropriate Admission Procedure.

SD18 Policy for the Support of Service users Who May Present with Behaviours of Concern
This policy and procedure provides clear guidance for supporting service users who may present with distressed behaviors within Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust. It allows the Trust to demonstrate that the use of restrictive practices meet and uphold the guiding principles of the Mental Health Act Code of Practice (2015) and that they remain proportionate, least restrictive, last for no longer than is necessary, take account of service user preference wherever possible and provide a safe and therapeutic environment for service users, staff and visitors.

SD50 Victim's rights Policy
This document contains guidance relating to victims’ rights under the Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Act (DVCVA) 2004 and Section 48 and Schedule 6 of the Mental Health Act 2007, relating to chapter 2 patients - (with effect from 3 November 2008). Through this Policy, the service will enable victims to exercise their rights and will ensure that all relevant staff are aware of their responsibilities and are enabled to fulfil these as required by the MHA 2007 and DVCVA 2004.

Absent Without Leave (AWOL) Procedure
The purpose of this procedure is to ensure an effective and consistent response to reports of service users who are either detained under the Mental Health Act (MHA) 1983 (as amended 2007) or under Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) as per the Mental Capacity Act (2005) who abscond from an inpatient setting; are absent without leave (AWOL); or fail to return from a period of leave and how to return them safely to the ward if appropriate.

The purpose of this corporate policy and procedure is to provide support and guidance for those working within the framework of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. This policy reviews and replaces the Trust-wide policy last reviewed in 2020
