To tackle the issue of food waste across our Mersey Care sites. We are looking at ways that we can implement new initiatives that will reduce waste and save staff money.

With the cost of living increasing, we all need to look at how we spend and save. We know that some staff are struggling to pay for food, heating and housing. Whilst we cannot and shouldn’t recreate a benefits system, we can look at alternative ways we support our employees.

Our Health and Wellbeing team has partnered with our catering and Facilities Management teams to pilot an intervention (three months initially) that will help reduce food waste and save staff money on our sites that have catering facilities. Any excess food at the end of the day or the end of mealtimes will be offered to staff for a small donation of 1 penny.

If the site you work at has a cafe, we would like to give you the option to be added to the mailing list so you can be notified throughout the day to let you know when the food will go on offer. There will be no specific time that the email notification is sent so you will just need to keep an eye out for the alert. You will be notified if you are successful and a time will be provided for you to collect your food.

If you would like to be added to the mailing list,  please email the site directly who will add you to the list.

We will be collecting the names of interested staff for the next few weeks to go live with our ‘Waste Not Want Not’ Initiative on 19 June.

Any names that are added to the list will be confidential as we appreciate that this could be a sensitive issue.
