We have set communication standards that reflect its purpose and values. These values are part of our corporate identity and shape how people think and feel about us.
As an NHS body, we produce written information for a diverse audience. Clear and consistent written communication are an example of how we work and show that we are committed to meeting the needs of our stakeholders.
When writing content for your page, consider who will be reading it, what they need to know and what they need to do. It's important to make your information as clear as possible.
Our Communications page is a good example of how a page on YourSpace should look.
-
Use plain English. If you are using acronyms please spell out what this means then put the acronym in brackets, for example National Health Service (NHS).
-
Use different size text to break up text in a page, use Heading 2 to create headers on a page, Heading 3 for important information or normal for the body text.
-
Use single accordions for information staff may need to know more about.
-
Don't underline text as this may be mistaken for a link - use bold to emphasis a word if needs be.
-
Use the 'show blocks' feature when editing a page to make sure your spacing is right.
-
Alight your text to the left - don't centre it.
-
If you are linking to a document or page, don't say 'click here' - instead tell the person where you are taking them to. For example, visit YourSpace to find out more or continue reading on England’s website.
-
When writing dates and times, write it like this 15 April 2024 from 3.30pm to 4pm rather than 15th April 2024 15.30 to 16:00.
-
When writing numbers below 10, write as one, two, three. Anything above 10 can be written as 11, 12, 13.
-
Don't use '&' - instead use 'and'.
-
If you are using bullet points, only add a full stop at the end. Use the bullet pint feature available on YourSpace.
-
If you are referencing a policy on your page please don't link directly to the policy as overtime if/when this policy changes the link may become broken. Instead, search for the name of your policy on this page yourspace.merseycare.nhs.uk/policies-and-procedures, click on the correct policy listed under search results and use the link from that page. For example, for our Official Visitor's policy, we would use this link yourspace.merseycare.nhs.uk/policies-and-procedures/summary/3153/475
