The Business Continuity Institute (BCI) delivers an annual campaign with the aim of raising awareness about the important of business continuity and resilience. At Mersey Care, business continuity plans have been developed for each service and it is important that all staff in each service know where to access these plans and refer to them during periods of disruption.
During the awareness week here are some activities you can do with your teams:
• Ensure new starters are briefed on your team’s business continuity plan during their local induction
• Ensure all your team members know where to locate your business continuity plan. Ensure a paper copy is available for reference in the event of IT downtime.
• Review your business continuity plan at your team meeting. Is it in date? Does it contain the latest information? Does it need any additional information adding based on learning from previous business continuity incidents?
• Choose an action card and run through it with your team members. Does it include all the required actions you would undertake during a disruption? Does anyone have any good ideas on responding to a business continuity incident that could be included in your action cards?
• Does it include all your latest contact details and contingency telephone numbers?
- Put a reminder in your calendar to ensure your plan is updated annually, before it expires

Did you know that the Emergency Planning Team can offer the following support?
• Business impact analysis and business continuity plan templates along with a ‘How to Guide’
• Provision of a business continuity workshop to guide your team on how to complete a business impact analysis and business continuity plan
• Facilitate a Business Continuity Desktop Scenario session with your team, where you can test your plan against some service disruption scenarios. It is a brilliant opportunity to learn lessons during a scenario situation rather than during a real incident!
