The NHS Patient Safety Syllabus was launched in 2019 to help deliver the national Patient Safety strategy and bring about safer care and treatment for patients. It is a multi-professional syllabus for all staff developed by Health Education England working in partnership with NHS England / Improvement.

It is now expected that all NHS organisations will implement the Patient Safety Syllabus as part of mandatory training.

All staff are asked to complete level one - Essentials E-Learning. 350 Patient Safety Level 1.

This E-learning module will be added to colleagues mandatory training matrices and is to be renewed every 3 years to allow you to keep up with any changes

Some clinical staff (Band 7 and above) will also be expected to undertake the National Patient Safety Syllabus level 2 E-Learning in the future.

Team leaders/managers can refer to their usual team level training reports to identify who within their teams are required to complete this module. Compliance will be shown under the New Training reporting category until February 2024 to allow a 12-month lead in time before it becomes a formal KPI.

Our local incident reporting module has also been updated (Patient Safety Incident Management Training) to reflect the National Syllabus.
