January's Employee of the Month winner is Lisa Burrows from Neuro Rehab Southport. Lisa was nominated by Catherine Parkinson for the value of Continuous Improvement.
Lisa identified neurological signs in a patient who was referred to Vestibular Clinic for balance difficulties which had spanned two years with accelerated deterioration recently. She made a recommendation to the patient's GP to refer to Neurology and for MRI brain scan. Lisa followed this up and found that the recommendations had not been followed. Due to concern about a potentially urgent underlying Neurological problem, Lisa liaised with ENT colleagues and an MRI was ordered and expedited. MRI revealed Obstructive Hydrocephalus. On receipt of the MRI report, Lisa discussed with Neurosurgeons at Walton Centre and was advised for GP referral to Neurosurgery. GP advised patient they would review this request the next working day. Lisa acted to complete referral to Neurosurgeons herself to avoid any further delay for the patient. The patient was contacted by Walton Centre and advised to attend A&E, he was admitted and listed for Neurosurgery for Obstructive Hydrocephalus.
Lisa's clinical excellence, diligence and persistence ensured that this patient received the right level of care to address an urgent and potentially life-threatening neurological condition. Lisa followed up on all her actions, demonstrated excellent communication skills both with the patient/family and a wide range of health professionals within various organisations. This is just one example of a case where Lisa has gone the extra mile to deliver excellence, her passion in the field of neuro/vestibular rehab is consistent through her practice. Lisa is dedicated to passing on her knowledge and skills for the benefit of others. Lisa is proactive and nationally recognised for the excellent work she delivers in this clinical field.
January's Team of the Month winner is the Quality and Compliance Team. The team was nominated by Sylvia Carney for the value of Support.
Recently, the team has supported the whole Trust from Board to front line staff in the largest CQC inspection for several years. Daily, the team liaise and facilitate 'all things CQC' across the year and have developed and grown their reputation with the CQC and across all divisions in the trust.
The whole team consistently go over and above to ensure effective organisation, communication, co-ordination and response to data and information requests as part of the inspection and day to day on-going assurance between CQC and the board, divisions, and individuals.
This is a high performing and motivated team with a 'Can do' approach that provides tireless support to the Trust in support of helping to achieve its overarching values and objectives; to ensure the services Mersey Care delivers are high quality, safe and effective for our patients and our communities.
I cannot commend the team more highly enough for them to be awarded Team of the Month. A key aim of the Trust is to achieve outstanding rating from the CQC, this effectively means that the trust delivers safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led services to patients, families, and our communities. During the recent inspection, which was large and complex across all our divisions, the Trust received several hundred data/ information requests from CQC that needed to be returned to the CQC within specific timescales, some within 24 to 48 hour turnaround to enable sign off.
The team worked in partnership with all divisions to co-ordinate, support and advise on what was required regarding level of assurance needed for submission. The team conducted this using compassionate and effective communication, being appreciative of the immense pressure all divisions were under in facilitating a large and complex inspection over several weeks. The impact resulted in all responses returned on time, positive feedback from CQC of how well organised the trust was during inspection.
