Publish date: 15 May 2023

Last week we shared some information about the agreed pay award. We can confirm that your pay will be updated, and the back pay will be processed in your June 2023 salary. If you are weekly paid it will be 23 June, and for monthly paid colleagues it will be 26 June.

For colleagues in band 8a – 9 who currently receive a consolidated payment following the 2018 pay award, which removed pay points from the pay structure (meaning you did not have a pay point in the new structure). As of 31 March 2023, this payment ended as it no longer applies due to the new pay award. Therefore, any payments made in April and May 2023 will be reversed when the new pay award is applied and adjusted in June 2023 pay.

The following tasks will be completed by Payroll in June and any corrections will take effect from 1 April 2023.

  • Apply uplift to parental leave (where applicable)
  • Update protection payments (where applicable)
  • Uplift local pay scales (where applicable)
  • Complete pension re-banding assessment in line with the tiered contribution guidance.

For the non-consolidated payment – it has been agreed that this can be either a one-off payment or paid in instalments over 10 months. If staff wish to receive the latter, they must complete the following steps:

Step 1 – If you are considering requesting the payment in instalments, you must access appropriate advice (for example through the Universal Credit helpline or Citizens Advice) to understand how receiving these payments in multiple instalments may impact your personal situation.

Step 2 –  If you request your payment to be made in instalments, please email correctivepayments@merseycare.nhs.uk by no later than 5pm on 24 May 2023, to allow time for payroll to map in the system. Please insert ‘Pay Award’ in the subject of your email and provide the following:

  • First name
  • Surname
  • Assignment Number
  • National Insurance Number

Please note, we will not be able to amend any requests to change the nature of the payment once it has already been paid as a single lump sum or agreed over the 10 month period.

The two non-consolidated payments will show on your payslip as follows:

  • The 2 per cent payment will be listed on your payslip as “2022 non-con payment”
  • The backlog bonus payment will be described on the payslip as “NHS Backlog payment”

The details of the new salaries and non-consolidated payment values can be found on this website Government and Agenda for Change trade unions ‘offer in principle’ | NHS Employers
Please do not contact payroll during this time with any queries about the pay award, as they are implementing and processing the changes.

Update from 15 May 2023:

Update on revised pay offer - non consolidated payment

The national guidance and pay awards cover the eligibility for the non consolidated payment. It states that is only covers staff directly employed by NHS organisations, specifically permanent and fixed term contracts. So under this definition and eligibility criteria set by the national award, colleagues who are bank workers are not eligible.
