Strengthening knowledge and application of the Mental Capacity Act is the single most important thing that all clinical staff can do at this time to prepare for the introduction of the Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS). We have provided an update below whilst we wait for an implementation date to be announced.

The fourth principle of the MCA reminds us that if a person has been assessed as lacking capacity, then any action taken or any decision made on behalf of that person must be made in their best interests.
