From today, 9 September 2024, Recognising the Deteriorating Patient (NEWS2 and Sepsis) will be introduced to:
-
Secure Care Division: Band 3 and Inpatient Clinical Staff excluding AHPs and Add Prof and Scientific
-
Community Care Division: Band 3 and Nursing and Midwifery, Band 3 and ICRAS Therapists, Band 3 and AHPS with exception of SALT Band 3 and Dental.
The training consists of two parts.
Part A: Theory which is delivered face to face for colleagues as part of their Enhanced Divisional Inductions and as an eLearning module for all existing colleagues. Face to face training will still be available for existing colleagues as an alternative to eLearning. Part A is an annual competence to all colleagues.
Part B: Individual competency assessment for practical observations, which will be delivered by the Clinical skills team to bands 6 and band 7 colleagues, who will then cascade in teams to colleagues’ band 5 and below. It will not be part of the Enhanced Divisional Inductions
Part B is an annual competence for Mental Health Care and Secure Care Division colleagues, but a once only completion for colleagues in Community Care Division.
