Ambulance service staff from GMB and Unison trade unions will go on strike on Wednesday, 11 January 2023, with Unison and Unite members taking further action on Monday, 23 January 2023 (GMB 00.00 to 23.59 and Unison 07.00 to 1900).

While Unite is not involved in action on 11 January, NWAS anticipate the impact on their workforce to be significantly more challenging as the strike involves all Unison members.

This means that all NWAS service lines (ambulance crews, 999 and 111 call centres and Patient Transport Service), will all be severely impacted. It will also extend to their vehicle workshops, support centre and IT department. The impact of the strike is anticipated to be felt for a further 48 hours post strike.

To support our teams, we have again set up the clinical cell for advice on managing our patients during the periods of NWAS strike action, and our escalation flowchart and supporting information has been updated here to help guide and support you through the process.

We have also shared some guidance around falls prevention here.

Confirmed cardiac arrest and immediate threats to life will continue to be supported via the usual process (999 or HPC 0345 140 0144).

We will continue to signpost people to use 111.nhs.uk, their GP or local pharmacy for help with non-urgent health concerns.

Once again, thank you for your support, cooperation, professionalism and commitment to patient care.
