On 5 July 2021,the NHS was awarded the George Cross, only the third time in history it had been awarded to a collective body, country or organisation, rather than an individual.

The NHS was awarded the bravery award for its ‘courage,compassion and dedication’ during the pandemic and since its foundation.

May Parsons, the nurse who delivered the first COVID-19 vaccination in the world, will join the NHS chief executive Amanda Pritchard, to be presented with the George Cross by Her Majesty The Queen, accompanied by The Prince of Wales on Tuesday 12 July 2022.
