This information is for all staff who are authorised to sign for receipt of medicines.

It is the responsibility of ward/department authorised staff to transfer fridge items to the fridge immediately and return the empty cool bags to the driver.  The member of staff must also record the temperature displayed on the data loggers on the temperature monitor sheet and/or drivers delivery sheet, ensuring that it is between 2-8 degrees before accepting delivery.

The cool bags, cool packs and data loggers must not remain on the ward after the items have been delivered, they must be returned to the Medicines Management Department on the return run (or the next working day if the medication is being delivered on the 4.30pm run).

On receipt if the temperature of the medicines has gone outside of the recommended range of 2 to 8 degrees, staff should quarantine the medicines and obtain advice from Medicines Management Department.  If receiving medicines outside of normal working hours (8.30am to 5pm) and advice is required, then the EDC pharmacist should be contacted.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation from The Medicines Management Team.
