Our Trust will be running a series of activities from 14 to 20 March to support Nutrition and Hydration Week.
These activities will include food and mood displays, where staff and patients will get involved in the important discussion around how food can affect your mood. Also during the week, an afternoon tea party will be prepared on our inpatient wards to encourage participation and discussions around nutrition and hydration.
Nutrition and Hydration Week aims to highlight, promote and celebrate improvements in the provision of nutrition and hydration locally, nationally and globally. It aims to create a global movement that will reinforce and focus energy, activity and engagement on nutrition and hydration as an important part of quality care, experience and safety in health and social care settings.
Activities happening throughout the week
The teams will be raising awareness of a number of things that are relevant to wards during the week, discussing Malnutrition and dehydration, MUST.

Raise the importance of good nutrition for mental health |
Health Promotion team been visiting wards and displaying information on the Health promotion boards. Please look out for it and discuss it with patients over the week. This will be happening across the whole trust. |
Wednesday 16 March |
Global Tea party |
Our older adult wards are running a Global tea party on the wards to raise importance of hydration and nutrition. |
Our inpatient wards across the trust will be hosting a tea party. There will also be a healthy dish of the day at Delamere (canteen at Hollins Park) |

Thirsty Thursday |
A event will be held in the foyer of Broadoak to raise the importance of hydration and low calorie drinks and healthy takeaways |
A stall will be placed in foyer of Broadoak will be manned by Dietetics and health promotion teams. Free samples for tasters. Please encourage patients that can come off the ward to attend the event. Health Promotion team will be visiting wards across the trust and displaying information on the Health promotion boards. Look out for it and discuss it with patients over the week. |

To raise awareness of Malnutrition and importance of nutrition.
Event in Clockview focus on the healthy snacks and takeaways |
A teams training session for local staff will be held about fortifying foods link below. The link has gone out to all wards. Local division staff to click this link at 1pm to join the meeting A stall will be placed in Café area of Clockview will be manned by Dietetics and health promotion teams. Free samples for tasters. Please encourage patients that can come off the ward to attend the event.

If you are getting involved in any of the above activities here are the infection prevention recommendations for your promotional stand in non-clinical areas…
- Hand hygiene station to be accessible within the area for staff and service users to decontaminate hands on entry and exit along with face mask access for service users if they feel they would like
- Foot operated disposal for any waste
- Staff to adhere to face coverings as Merseycare guidance at time of promotion
- Any information leaflets to be handed out to reduce unnecessary touching and potential transmission risks
- Any visual aids/posters on the display laminated to enable decontamination
- All items on display to be wipeable to ensure decontaminated appropriately and the relevant times ( before session , between touch, end of session)
- Social distancing to be adhered to with staff and service users
- Service users visiting the promotion will be ward bubbles with no ward cross over
- Promotional stand to be in a spacious and ventilated area
- Any taster samples to be individually wrapped or handed out in disposable products by the staff
- Ward to assess clinical health of service user prior to attendance to ensure not incubating infection
- IPC will link in with regard to any areas of concern on the day
