Falls image.jpgThis week is Falls Awareness Week and it is an annual event to raise awareness in falls prevention. The week aims to help people to understand what they can do themselves to prevent falling, as well as to highlight the variety of local services available to help. Falls can be more dangerous than they might seem. They can cause bruising, hip fractures, and head injuries, and these accidents have the potential to be fatal, especially for older adults which means that they deserve extra attention to make sure they’re protected.

The Age Uk Website provides some useful information and resources and Medline UK also have a helpful knowledge base.

At the Trust, ‘Zero Falls in Our Care’ is one of our Big Hairy Audacious Goals (BHAGs) for the whole organisation with falls prevention as one of our key priorities. We have created a new page on YourSpace  where you can read more about falls prevention in Mersey Care and the work we are doing. The page has been created as a one-stop resource for all staff to keep you up to date with developments and resources in relation to falls prevention.  The page will be developed over the coming months in collaboration with the Zero Falls in Our Care Group.

Please take the opportunity this week to complete the e-learning Level 1 Falls prevention training on ESR. It has been designed for all clinically facing staff and will take no more than 20-30 minutes to complete. This training aims to help you to learn about falls, some of the consequences of falls and what can be done to reduce falls.
