The Apprenticeship Team are excited to share news of the newly approved Level 3 Community Health and Wellbeing Worker apprenticeship standard.

“Community Health and Wellbeing Workers are a rapidly expanding workforce supporting the increasing emphasis across government departments on improving the health of local people and communities by preventing poor health and tackling inequalities. Their work is informed by the wider social determinants of health, such as the social, cultural, political, economic, commercial and environmental factors that shape the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age.” (Occupational Summary, Apprenticeship Standard)

We are confident that this standard will be well received here at Mersey Care – look at these quotes taken from our Clinical Strategy, you will see how well the above occupational summary links with our future plans.

Working together with the people who use our services and their families and carers, we will deliver our new model of care and new integrated service models that focus on preventing ill health when possible, or on preventing peoples’ health from getting worse.

We will work collaboratively with partner organisations across health and social care to have greater impact on improving the health and wellbeing of our communities by becoming more preventative and integrated in our approach to meet people’s physical health, mental health and social needs. This will allow us to address wider determinants that are affecting people’s health, such as their lifestyle, work, income, housing and social connections and make sure we can meet the needs of the population as a whole from birth to end of life.

This new apprenticeship standard is aimed at teams and colleagues whose work involves  enabling individuals, networks and the communities in which people live or work to  address unmet needs to improve health and wellbeing.

Typical job titles of support staff who would be eligible for this apprenticeship include:

Health Trainer, Care Navigator, Community Connector/Health Champion, Social Prescribing Link Worker, Support Time Recovery Worker

We are taking referrals for the first cohort which we hope will start in April/May.
