Last week the Telehealth Hub welcomed Helen Whately MP to demonstrate how successfully Mersey Care have rolled out Virtual Wards. During the visit Helen spoke with a patient who uses the service via video call and spent some time with our Chair Rosie Cooper.

Rather than being on a hospital ward, Virtual Wards provide patients with access to the care they need which is safe, convenient and in place they call home. Our Telehealth team remotely monitor patients to ensure the right care is in the right place. The Telehealth platform enables early identification of deterioration and prioritises face-to-face visits. One Telehealth nurse can manage a caseload of up to 50 patients on the technology enabled Virtual Wards.

To help provide a full overview of the service and the equipment used, Helen also spoke with Dr Rosie Kaur and Dr Rajiv Sankaranarayanan, Consultant Cardiologist and Heart Failure Lead at Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust. Our Telehealth Team also provides a range of clinical pathways across Cheshire and Merseyside, including supporting patients with long term health conditions such as COPD, Heart Failure and Diabetes. The aim is to empower patients to become self-carers, therefore reducing the likelihood of emergency admissions.
